A bit about the clubAs we have no local port (Our base is Guildford which is 35 miles from the sea) our members travel quite large distances by road often sharing to keep costs down.In the past the club has chartered boats for days out from many differentt ports including Brighton, Dartmouth, Deal, Dover, Hayling Island (Northney Marina, Sparkes Marina and Langstone Harbour), Exmouth, Keyhaven, Minehead, Newhaven, Ramsgate, Watchet and Weymouth. To vary the fishing and/or to get more fishing per mile travelled the club has organised short breaks (from 2 days upto a week long) in Alderney, Courtmacsherry (Ireland), Dartmouth, Exmouth, Guernsey, Minehead, Mawganporth (near Padstow) Tobermory Bay (Scotland) Weymouth and Whitby. Members have also got together in small groups travelled singly to more exotic locations all over the world such as Florida, Kenya, Namibia, Seychelles and New Zealand. Recently our activities have been somewhat restricted; Predominanly the reasons are economic, Factors include increased travelling and accommodation prices together with higher boat charter prices (mainly due to the fuel price increases). Currently on the calendar are days at Littlehampton and Gosport. We are however looking forward and more trips and activities being added to the calendar. The club also encourages members to enter various competitions (WIBAC, BCC, Weymouth Conger Festival etc.) where their names have often apppeared in the prize list. (see Latest Reports ) or the BCC website The club membership subscription fees are currently a very reasonable 15 pounds a year or just 5 quid for (under 17). We do not charge a joining fee |
MeetingsOur meetings normally take place on the first TUESDAY of the month (see the Diary) at the Guildford City club is 73 Josephs Road, GU1 1DNThe next meeting is on Tuesday 7th January at City Club Members are only able to book places on most of the boat trips for the following 3 calendar months and those those actually attending the meeting get the first chance to book (more information on the diary).n Prospective members are welcome to come along to check us out or get in touch with us via any of the methods on our contacts page. |
The futureEvery year, toward the end of summer, the club arranges charter boats for the next calendar year and as soon as it is finalised the club calendar is printed and distributed to members (usually at the September meeting). However, to help our members as much as possible with long-term planning, details of future events will appear on the on-line diary as soon as we commit to a charter. The charters include boats for at least 2 club competitions and, occasionally if we hve enough interest, longer trips (from 2 days up to a week long) as well as the normal one-day trips. Additional weekday/weekend trips may me added during the year at short notice. |
